Celebrating our London Community

On Thursday, October 3, volunteers, sponsors, partners and friends joined us in celebrating SCIO’s London community.  We gathered at the appropriately named Community Hall at Goodwill Industries for an evening of music, food and sharing memories as well as goals.  Music supplied by the generous and talented folks of Bunkhouse kept the cocktail reception entertained. We shared memories and paid tribute to our late friend and former colleague Penny Watson, whom we lost last year. Penny was a beautiful soul who touched and inspired many and it was a special moment in the presence of her family and friends to honour her. We also thanked the dedication and longevity of support of the McVicker Family who have had some members literally grow up within our community.

After dinner our Master of Ceremonies Mitch Brogan, entrepreneur, innovator and CEO of Able Bionics, and media sharing and loyalty points app, Yuser, kept the program moving with humour and sharing his own experiences.  We heard from our keynote speaker Lee Thibeault and the ground breaking and innovative research he has been involved with.  It gave us a glimpse in what is happening out in the field of spinal cord injury research, nutrition and robotics.  Thank you, Lee.

Then our wonderful London team of Elizabeth Zarnowiecki and Julie Watson presented the much deserved awards of recognition.

Congratulations to the deserving award recipients of the evening, whose contributions have been outstanding and who have helped make the London community as powerful and effective as it is:

  • Mike Mulligan – London Peer Volunteer Award
  • Cy Hartland – London Volunteer Award
  • Cheshire London – London Community Partner Award
  • Marcus & Associates/Hoare Dalton – London Fundraising Partner Award

We could not have hosted the evening without our generous sponsors. Thanks and appreciation to:
