Family centered care

Co-designing family centered care across the care continuum

Recruiting Individuals with spinal cord injury, family caregivers and health care professionals for a research study. Funded by a grant from the Craig H Neilsen Foundation. Researchers at the University of Toronto Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and KITE – Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – University Health Network are recruiting for a new study.

This qualitative descriptive study aims to understand individuals with Spinal Cord Injury/Disease (SCI/D), family caregivers’ and healthcare professionals’ perceptions of family centered care (FCC) across acute, rehabilitation and community care environments.

A 1-hour telephone interview exploring development of patient care plans in the context of families, collaboration between families and health care professionals, family contexts that influence care, procedures and policies to support families, educational needs, and strategies to coordinate care across the care continuum.

Who is eligible to participate:

Adults (18+) with SCI/D
Minimum 6 months post injury and have completed inpatient care
Family members providing care for a minimum of 6 months assisting with at least one activity per week
Registered health care professional from acute,rehabilitation or community care
Fluent in English
Must reside in Canada

What is involved:

Data will be collected through interviews that can be completed in person, by telephone, or online (e.g., zoom). Interviews will take approximately 1 hour to complete. Participants will receive 25-dollar gift card as a token of appreciation.
