Employer Outreach Specialist/Job Developer (Contract Part-time, 3 days/week, till March 31, 2024)
SCIO employment services are backed by decades of experience supporting individuals living with a spinal cord injury. This legacy has positioned the SCIO employment services team as leaders, serving and empowering individuals with all types of disabilities – from physical to mental and short-term to long-term. We also partner with employers in the GTA to help them fill their hiring needs and understand the all-around benefits of an inclusive and barrier-free workplace.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Employment Services; the Employer Outreach Specialist/Job Developer provides comprehensive job development service to our partnering employers to understand and fulfill their hiring needs, as well as to clients with disabilities to facilitate meaningful paid employment and community participation. This position is based out of our provincial office located in Toronto.
Reporting to the Manager, Employment Services, you will:
- Actively conduct marketing and outreach activities with new employers to establish partnerships to develop competitive employment opportunities for our clients
- Develop and maintain long-term recruitment relationships with employers by understanding their corporate culture, recruitment needs and provision of excellent customer service
- Provide on-site follow-up support, job coaching and/or job maintenance to clients and employers to sustain a job placement
- Provide customized support for clients in the job development phase by, customizing resumes, identifying and targeting employers, supporting self-directed job search skills and providing motivational support during the job search phase
- Match suitable clients with employment opportunities and facilitate the interviewing and hiring process with employers
- Provide training to employers and community agencies in the areas of disability awareness, AODA Standards and best practices in hiring and retaining employees with disabilities
- Coordinate supports as required to address job accommodation and disability-related issues
- Meet monthly statistical/reporting requirements and maintain client and employer databases
- Work collaboratively with other members of the Employment Services team to ensure the varying and comprehensive needs of our clients and employers are met.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years experience in job development, employer outreach, employment counselling and/or recruitment
- Post-secondary diploma in sales & marketing, business, disability studies, social services, or related discipline, undergraduate degree an asset
- Sound ability to apply marketing and negotiation techniques (i.e., cold calling, needs analysis, advocacy)
- Possess a holistic knowledge of, or passion to learn about, disabilities and their functional implications
- Knowledge of disability issues, labour market trends and job accommodations
- Effective interpersonal skills, with strong listening, collaboration and negotiation skills
- Proven planning/organization and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and apply a team approach to achieving successful placement outcomes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to facilitate oral presentations to employers and other community partners
- Strong self-management skills to work effectively with clients, employers, co-workers and outside agencies
- Demonstrated computer proficiency working in an MS Office environment, familiarity with databases
- Experience with social media (i.e., LinkedIn, Twitter) to connect with potential employers
- Ability to travel and access to a reliable vehicle is a must
