Peer Connections: Aging with an SCI – Skin Health

Monday, September 27, 2021

As we age skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity. It has a reduced blood supply and fat decreases and becomes dryer. With spinal cord injury, add in muscle atrophy and impaired sensation and you have a recipe for pressure injuries.
Most people living with SCI will develop a pressure injury at some time throughout their lifetime. Pressure injuries most often occur after 20 years with SCI or after 50 years of age.
Join us to learn more about aging and skin health, and what you can do to prevent or manage pressure injuries.
