Rock ‘N Rolling Through Barriers
The response to our Rolling Through Barriers campaign throughout July has been positively overwhelming! We heard from our community members about the challenges they’ve overcome, the barriers that still exist for them and the importance of accessibility. The stories and words of solidarity from staff, clients, donors, volunteers, politicians and media personalities were powerful statements about the importance of sustained advocacy. Thank you to everyone who raised their voices and participated!
The inaugural #rollingthroughbarriers would not have been possible without our lead volunteers, Jake Aitcheson from Lerners LLP and John Shamoon from Stride Rehabilitation. Thank you for your vision and dedication! We are also very grateful to our incredible sponsors Wright Rehab, Lerners LLP, Deutschmann Law, Stride Rehabilitation, Modern OT, Harris Law, Silver Cross Automotive, Larrek Investigations, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Burn Tucker Lachaine LLP and Conval Aid for their generosity and impactful contributions!
We set a fundraising target and exceeded it! Check out our campaign page to see the top fundraisers, a full list of sponsors and learn more about the campaign. The support of our sponsors and donors will ensure our clients and their families continue to receive free life changing services that enhance independence.
To cap off the month, we held a virtual variety show on July 30 hosted by Jake and John. The show featured client testimonials. the most popular videos and special performances by comedians Derrick Tennant and Graham Chittenden, and and SCIO’s own Vijay Jegathees and his band Arian Musical Academy. If you missed all the fun, you can watch the videos on by searching #rollingthroughbarriers on social media. (We’ll also be consolidating and posting the videos soon.)
Thanks to our community for helping make this province more accessible and equitable by #rollingthroughbarriers. And a special shout-out to SCIO’s own Information Resources Specialist Oda Al anizi, who not only won the Rolling Through Barriers award for best video, but was featured on CTV News – watch the news story here.
