THANK YOU
Over 200 skiers, snowboarders, supporters, volunteers and cheerleaders got together February 16, 2023 for the 22nd annual SCIO Ski & Snowboard Day. This year’s Ski & Snowboard Day was presented by the Insurance Bureau of Canada – many thanks to IBC for the continued support. It is amazing that we have been doing this event for 22 years and in that time have raised over $1.6 million to support people with spinal cord injuries in Ontario. The event is successful thanks to everyone’s participation and coming together.
One of the most wonderful things about Ski & Snowboard Day is that it provides the opportunity for individuals with a spinal cord injury to experience the thrill of sit-skiing. For many it is a new experience, and for others, it is a reaffirmation that anything is possible. We would like to gratefully acknowledge the dedicated volunteers from Canadian Adaptive Snowsports (CADS) and Ontario Track3 Adaptive Sports Association. This event would not be possible without the help of these amazing volunteers.
Our emcees Joanne Smith and Rich Vander Wal were able to speak to their own experience in trying new things post injury. Rich even shredded the hill before picking up the microphone to show the crowd how it’s done. Thank you Joanne and Rich for being a big part of the day and SCIO history.
SCIO would also like to express our gratitude to our generous 2023 Ski & Snowboard Day sponsors. Thanks to Meridian Credit Union, our Prize Sponsor, everyone who attended received a charming bottle of maple syrup to sweeten the day. Our Making Dreams Possible Sponsor, The MTBW Group, continued their longstanding support of SCIO programs and services. And what is a day on the slopes without good food? Many thanks to Gerd Hermanns Landscape Contractor Inc, our Lunch Sponsor, and Earth Boring Company Ltd, our Après Ski Sponsor, for your delicious contribution to the day. We would also like to make a special shout out to Rinker Materials, who once again had the largest group of attendees with 60 participants!
This event brings in support from so many generous sponsors. See the list below of the wonderful organizations that helped to make this day a success.
Special shout out to our photographer Andy Stevens, our auctioneer Rip Riopelle and musician Mark Wilson. We truly appreciate your contributions to this event.
Finally, Spinal Cord Injury Ontario would like to thank the dedicated, hardworking 2023 Ski & Snowboard Day volunteer Committee who make this event possible. The committee went above and beyond this year. A sincere thank you to: Alan Cogill, Andrew Murray, Domenic Marchese, Deirdre Elliott, Kevin Holmes, Marc Marrone, Tom Opara and Tom Scanlan. We look forward to next February!
