Our community has spoken loud and clear: chronic pain is a pain in the… No matter how often or intensely you experience pain after an SCI, the most important thing you can do is take measured steps to manage it. Medicine? Mindfulness? Massage? Explore what’s right for you in this complex and challenging area.

Cause and effect

It’s likely there are as many types of pain as there are responses to it. Are you dealing with muscular pain? Neuropathic pain? Pain resulting from injury? Overuse of specific muscles and joints? Do you respond with anger? Frustration? Resignation? Motivation? Your medical team will have important insights and recommendations to help identify areas of concern and potential solutions. And, because you know your body best, you’ll want to learn as much as you can about how to manage your specific pain to move through life without suffering.

Cortree Disability Education Centre offers a transformative course on managing chronic pain. Finding a solution – even a temporary one – to chronic pain is a great cause for celebration. It’s rarely easy but not impossible to learn ways of coping with chronic pain from injury or disability.
