Pressure injuries are one of the significant health concerns for people living with an SCI. Yet, there is no consistent standard of practice when it comes to the management of wounds.
The Problem:
People are waiting years for lifesaving surgery, costing them their ability to participate fully in society.
There are few specialists available in Ontario that are equipped to perform wound care specific surgery.
Currently, a standard of practice has yet to be adopted across the continuum of care, so people receive different types of care depending on their location, leading to uncertain health outcomes.
SCIO has created a Pressure Injury Guide to help guide healthcare practitioners and wheelchair users in better managing and preventing pressure injuries and complications. We encourage you to share the guide with your networks. Please help us ensure that healthcare professionals are aware of this resource. Download it and share it with your interprofessional teams.
