Celebrating a birthday with a SCIO fundraiser is a heartfelt and impactful way to give back to the community and make a difference. Not only is it easy to set up, but it also transforms the big day into a powerful catalyst for generosity and compassion.

How it works

Setting up your own birthday SCIO fundraiser is simple using Facebook’s fundraiser feature:

  • On your computer, log in to Facebook.
  • Navigate to the SCIO Facebook Page.
  • Click the Fundraisers tab.
  • Click Raise Money.
  • Fill in the details about your fundraiser event in the left-hand panel.
  • Click Next.
  • Either choose one of the suggested cover photos or upload your own.
  • Click Create.

By channeling the goodwill of your friends and family into a great cause, you create a ripple effect of positive change, directly enhancing the quality of life, health, and mobility for those living with spinal cord injuries.

Grounded in shared life experience, we are Ontario’s primary source of services for individuals and families journeying from injury to achieving their personal life goals. We connect, support and empower our community to thrive.

Roles and Responsibilities

Host Responsibilities:

  • The host is solely responsible for all costs associated with the event.
  • The event is to be conducted in a manner that upholds SCIO’s reputation and mission.

SCIO Responsibilities:

  • SCIO will provide branding materials and informational content as specified.
  • SCIO does not assume any operational, financial, or legal responsibility for the event.

By signing below, I accept full responsibility for the event’s organization and conduct, freeing SCIO from any liability or costs incurred.

We’re committed to ensuring your fundraising experience with us is seamless and enjoyable. This document outlines SCIO’s policies, guidelines, and frequently asked questions regarding third-party fundraising events.

Third Parties are required to:

  • Sign SCIO Third-Party Agreement prior to using any SCIO branded
    materials for fundraising purposes
  • Align with SCIO’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Maintain a positive image reflective of our organization.
  • Obtain necessary licenses and permits if applicable.

Getting started with your fundraising event is easy:

  • Complete the Third-Party Fundraising Agreement Form
  • Provide SCIO with notice of your event


To ensure the safety and standards of SCIO, its volunteers, and staff, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Branding & Marketing:
    Obtain approval before using SCIO’s name or logo *via completing the Third-Party
    Agreement form. Use positive marketing and public relations tactics.
  2. Donations and Sponsorships:
    Are the sole responsibility of the host and SCIO will not provide any sponsorship or donor information.
  3. Staffing and Volunteers:
    Organizers must provide necessary staffing and recruit volunteers for the event.
  4. Financing and Insurance:
    SCIO will not underwrite any third-party event.
    SCIO’s insurance does not cover third-party events. Organizers are responsible for any
    damages or accidents.
  5. Accountability:
    Provide one (1) weeks’ notice for event cancellation. This is especially important if SCIO has shared any third party event information via one of the public social media accounts. Inform SCIO if the event benefits any other charities. Be responsible for any financial losses.
  6. Lottery Licenses:
    Third-party events requiring special permits must comply with government regulations. Organizers are responsible for permits and fees.
  7. Liquor Permit:
    Obtain a Special Occasion Permit (SOP) from the LCBO if serving alcohol. All liquor permit regulations must be followed.
  8. Photographs:
    SCIO reserves the right to display event photos and comments on various platforms. By completing the Third-Party Fundraising Events Agreement Form, you agree to abide by these terms and conditions set forth by Spinal Cord Injury Ontario.
  9. Charitable Tax Receipts (CRA Requirement):
    A charitable tax receipt is given to individuals or groups who make a donation to a registered
    charity. The donations must be made directly to the Spinal Cord Injury Ontario and without
    personal return. One will not get a tax receipt for purchasing a ticket to an event, sponsoring
    an event, or buying an auction item or raffle ticket, etc.
    In compliance with CRA requirements, please add the following donor contact information:
    * donor’s name
    * donor’s address (including postal code)
    * donor’s telephone number (including area code)
    * amount of donation

Spinal Cord Injury Ontario will provide tax receipts for donations of $10.00 and above.
