Our Volunteers Rock!
We're fiercely dedicated to providing life-changing and life-long resources to people with SCI and their families, and we succeed with a little help from our friends.
Volunteers are at the core of all we do. This caring group of people, who generously contribute their time and talents to so many of our programs, are an integral part of our community. Thanks to our volunteers, we reach more people and ensure effective support for anyone who would like it.
So many ways to help
As a volunteer for SCIO you have a profound impact on peoples’ lives by helping us advance towards our vision of a fully inclusive and accessible Ontario. We are fortunate to have a diverse group of people at work for us in a number of capacities, like the group of Toronto office volunteers gathered for a thank-you lunch in the shot on this page,. As a charity that makes every dollar count, having volunteers share their high level of skill with us makes an important difference to our bottom line and our ability to serve our community well.
There are lots of opportunities available for people who’d like to play a key role in our work:
Office assistance
Running events
Board-level leadership
Volunteers might choose a role with a very specific time frame or one that is ongoing. We’d be privileged to have you on board and are happy to create a schedule that suits you.
Behind the camera
Robert Blakely is a valued SCIO volunteer and outstanding photographer. A retired helicopter pilot, he has joined us on our annual Ski Day in Collingwood for many years, capturing gorgeous shots of the fun and thrills experienced by guests and new sit-skiers. Rob is also a volunteer for Canadian Association for Adaptive Snowsports (CADS) and is owner of Photo Jitterbug. Thanks Rob!
