Air travel for people with disabilities has presented multiple challenges over the last few years from inadequate equipment to help people board, to the mishandling of personal assistive devices such as expensive wheelchairs being severely damaged.
SCIO, along with Simon Fraser University has received a grant from the Craig Neilsen Foundation to help address the barriers in air travel for people with SCI and other disabilities.
Starting in March 2024, we will be working with various airlines, researchers and people with lived experience to improve air travel and help ensure equitable access.
We have heard numerous stories about the challenges of air travel from our community members. If you have a story navigating such challenges, please share it with us at [email protected] – it is important that we band together as a community to thoroughly improve the future of equitable air travel.
