The Organization
Spinal Cord Injury Ontario is an expert in the field of spinal cord injury (SCI) community services. Founded in 1945, SCI Ontario’s mission is to “provide peer experiences, education, advocacy, and ongoing services for those impacted by spinal cord injuries.”. Our Vision: Individuals impacted by spinal cord injuries thriving.

The Opportunity
We are looking for an individual that can assist with the development and distribution of SCIO’s marketing, communications and fundraising initiatives, upholding brand standards and best practices.
As part of the Canada Summer Jobs program, this position is funded for approximately 35 hours per week for 12 weeks throughout the summer. This position is based out of our provincial office; however, currently this position allows the flexibility to shift to remote work options.

Responsibilities:
• Support the department in data base updates. This includes calling clients for updated addresses and email addresses, data base clean up, sorting mail.
• Outreach to thank donors.
• Create and update prospect lists for donors and sponsor partners.
• Support events such as Access Expos.
• Contribute to the development of community stories, including social media posts.

Qualifications:
• Enrolled/completed academic studies in marketing, communications, fundraising, philanthropy, special events, graphic design, media studies; an asset.
• Excellent organization skills, detail oriented, ability to work on several projects simultaneously and demonstrated initiative.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills
• Ability to interact and collaborate with a variety of people at all levels within and outside the organization.
• Ability to work independently, act with discretion, diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency working in an MS Office environment is essential, including Word, Excel, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress; Raiser’s Edge knowledge is an asset.
• Previous experience in non-profit sector/social service sector/rehabilitation field (as employee or volunteer), an asset

To be eligible, the candidate must:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act3; and,
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
