Characterizing gaze behaviour.

Study is to compare eye gaze during walking of individuals after SCI/D.

The purpose of this study is to compare eye gaze during walking of individuals after SCI/D to that of age- and gender-matched individuals without spinal cord injury/disease and to determine if eye gaze is related to falls.

KITE Research Institute – Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network.

Who is eligible to participate:

Individuals 18 years or older living with a non-progressive motor incomplete spinal cord injury and who are able to walk 10m with or without an assistive device.

 

What is involved:

This study involves

1) one screening visit and

2) one assessment consisting of a series of tasks: walking 10m, walking on carpet, around obstacles, onto a step and walking while performing a thinking task, all while wearing glasses that will measure your eye gaze. 

The two on-site test sessions will be completed at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Lyndhurst Centre (Address: 520 Sutherland Dr., Toronto).

The screening visit will last approximately 1.5 hours and the assessment will last 1-2 hours.

Participants will be reimbursed for their time: $80 for two study visits and up to $150 for 6 months of tracking falls
