Daniel and Angela
Have you seen Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story?
Reeve shares that his wife Dana inspired him to keep going with the words: “You are still you, and I love you”. Superman had a lot of support.
The film shows the resilience needed to keep going in life with a spinal cord injury, and the importance of a support system. Like most films, it does not show the struggle of people without a support system, or those living at or below the poverty line, and the massive barriers to well being that creates.
People like Daniel, who was stuck in hospital because he had nowhere safe to live. He did not have an accessible home or the essential equipment he needed.
Through hard work, Angela (pictured here), one of our dedicated frontline Navigators, found Daniel an accessible home (a small miracle in a housing crisis) and the equipment he needed – except for a hospital bed with a pressure relieving air mattress – an expensive essential item that helps prevent painful pressure injuries.
Then another little miracle happened. A gentleman called saying he had a near new bed and pressure relieving mattress. We shared Daniel’s story, and he generously donated the bed. Within 2 days we had Daniel out of hospital (freeing a bed there) and in his new home safe and sound.
Your gift funds the hard work that makes little miracles happen everyday for hundreds of people.
You can’t give people a Dana, but you can give them an Angela, and that is life changing help.
