Spinal Cord Injury Ontario is saddened to share with you the passing of Shauna Petrie.
Some will remember Shauna from her efforts to better the lives of people with spinal cord injury both as a Spinal Cord Injury Ontario employee and volunteer.
Many will remember Shauna for helping them see the world. Shauna shared her amazing knowledge of disability travel with our community over many years through articles in our magazine, as a Subject Matter Expert in Peer Workshops, or through Sea Wheels, the travel company for people with disabilities that she formed with her husband David. Shauna, and Sea Wheels, helped people realize their travel dreams, making their journey about wonderful experiences rather than a series of barriers.
All will remember her passionate, fun loving, and resilient nature.
Mother, grandmother, wife, friend. Volunteer, Provincial Community Activism Award recipient, business owner, French immersion teacher, world traveler. Downhill skier, tennis player, squash 57 player, hand cycler, wheelchair boxer, and Provincial Wheelchair Curling Champion. And when she needed to rest, nationally ranked Scrabble player.
A wonderful full life packed into an all too short life.
Thank you for sharing part of it with us Shauna.
Spinal Cord Injury Ontario extends its deepest sympathies to Shauna’s family, friends, and all those who had the good fortune to know her.
