Leadership Update at SCIO

We are writing to share an important leadership update at Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO).

After more than nine years of service, Stuart Howe has concluded his tenure as CEO. We are deeply grateful for his leadership, dedication, and the many contributions he has made to SCIO. Under his guidance, the organization has grown its reach and deepened its impact across the province. We thank Stuart for his years of service and wish him every success in his next chapter.

We are also pleased to welcome Sheila Casemore as Interim CEO, effective immediately. Sheila has been part of the SCIO community for more than 14 years, serving in progressive leadership roles including the former Director of Client Services. She brings a deep understanding of the organization, our clients, and our broader community, and she is widely respected by staff and sector partners alike. Sheila’s steady, thoughtful leadership will help guide SCIO through this period of transition.

This leadership change reflects a strategic decision by the Board of Directors to position SCIO for long-term sustainability, growth, and impact. In the coming months, the Board will launch a national search for a permanent CEO who will build on SCIO’s strengths and help lead the organization into its next chapter.

Throughout this transition, our programs and services remain uninterrupted, and our commitment to our mission — and to the people we serve — remains as strong as ever.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.
