On-demand accessible transportation in the GTA is becoming increasingly difficult to access.
Before the pandemic, vehicle-for-hire services looked promising for the disability community, with wheelchair-accessible vehicles available on the Uber app within 10-15 minutes. However, for the past few years, this service has rarely been available.
Accessible taxis are equally difficult to access, with wait times of several hours or ongoing waitlists. People with disabilities need their independence back with access to the same services as their fellow residents without disabilities.
We are working with the City of Toronto and recommending the following actions to ensure an equitable on-demand transportation service:
Sign our petition and share it widely to help implement accessible on-demand transportation.
