Physical activity preferences
Preferences for physical activity (PA) programming in persons with neurological conditions.
Researchers want to hear from you about your preferences for physical activity.
The R2P Team at Lawson Health Research Institute is conducting a survey about preferences for physical activity programming for persons with neurological conditions.
Persons with neurological conditions that affect their mobility often have low participation in physical activity (PA). There are existing guidelines that recommend participation in physical activity 2 to 3 times per week to help reduce the risk of secondary complications.
Lack of appropriate PA programming and facilities are often barriers to participation. Motivation also plays a large role in PA participation. A key component to motivation is being involved in programming that you enjoy, so you “want to” participate.
The aim of this study is to identify what the preferences of persons with neurological conditions are for types or components of a PA program. This information will be used to inform the development of PA program(s) that are client-centred with the aim of encouraging participation.
This anonymous online survey will take approximately 30 – 45 minutes to complete.
Who is eligible to participate:
- Adults (18+)
- You have been diagnosed with a neurological condition affecting your mobility. For example: Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Parkinson’s Disease, Cerebral Palsy, and others
- Can read and write in English. Please note. a French version of the survey will be available in the near future. Veuillez noter, une version française sera disponible sous peu.
- Must reside in Canada
What is involved:
If you agree to participate in the study, you will be asked to respond to a survey consisting of 3 sections. The survey is anonymous. The survey sections are as follows:
- Section 1 will ask you questions about yourself, your background, and your condition.
- Section 2 will ask about your physical function, outcome expectations for exercise, your ability to overcome common barriers to physical activity, and your current level of participation in physical activity.
- Section 3 will ask you about your preferences for physical activity programming going forward.
The questionnaires will be provided electronically. We are enrolling 200 participants.
