Sleep and SCI
Sleep disturbances and sleep outcomes after spinal cord injury: Insights from a community survey
Researchers at Simon Fraser University are conducting a study into sleep quality for people with SCI.
Many individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) report poor quality sleep. However, we do not know enough about the problems experienced or how to best manage them. Researcher Dr. Claydon and community partners at Spinal Cord Injury BC are conducting an online survey study to learn more about sleep quality, routines (i.e., turning, bladder care), and disturbances (i.e., pain, sleep apnea, anxiety) experienced after SCI, as well as the barriers to accessing sleep supports.
Who is eligible to participate:
We invite you to take this survey if you are:
- living with a chronic (≥1 year injuried) SCI (inclusive of all injury levels and severity)
- are at least 19 years of age
- live in Canada
Compensation For Participants
As a thank you for your time, participants will receive $15 via e-transfer. Participants who wish to receive the honoraria will be asked to email our research team who will verify that your responses have been recorded and screened for authenticity. In analysis, your email will not be linked to your survey responses.
What is involved:
This study is conducted entirely remotely. Participation in this study would involve completing an online survey on your own time. The time commitment is 35 – 45 minutes, depending on the number of sleep problems you experience.
If not completed in one sitting, the page can be left open until you return to it. If you wish to complete the survey verbally, a call with the study co-ordinator can be arranged
If you have any questions, please contact:
Study co-ordinator Rebekah Lee at [email protected], or 604-735-8235
Other opportunities to participate in research
Virtual rehabilitation
A qualitative semi-structured interview study is conducted to explore the perspectives, needs, and essential characteristics of the individuals with SCI.
