Smiles in the Snow

Smiles were the order of the day at Ottawa Ski & Snowboard Day which took place February 8th at the charming Sommet Edelweiss in Wakefield, Quebec. Thanks to our partners at Canadian Adaptive Snowsports (CADS), SCIO clients from Ottawa, Kingston, and Cornwall were able to try their hand at sit-skiing. We are very grateful for the group of fabulous CADS volunteers who came out to share their love of skiing, their time, and their skill with our community! Skiers from 4 to 64 enjoyed spring-like weather and ideal snow conditions for the day. This event exemplifies the “mission possible” vision at SCIO and we are so happy to share these moments with our community members.

Of course, events like this cannot take place without the generosity of our sponsors. A big thank you to a new member of our community of care, Soloway Wright LLP, who joined us as the Making Dreams Happen Sponsor for the day. Thanks for the fabulous toques! The lovely ladies from Burn, Tucker, Lachaîne PC always put their hearts into our events – our Lunch Sponsors even stepped up to serve lunch for everyone! Our dear friends at Bergeron Clifford LLP, our Peer Program Sponsors for Kingston and Ottawa, were our Transportation Sponsors for the day and Henderson Structured Settlements LP joined us as Ski Day Community Sponsors. Congratulations to Phil Linden who won our great door prize – a $250 gift certificate generously donated by Sporting Life at Lansdowne Park.

A final shout out to our Ottawa and Kingston SCIO teams and our volunteers for the day, Sreymom and Michael – we couldn’t have done it without you!

“Thank you so much for providing a day that I was able to experience a sport I previously loved prior to my injury. The atmosphere, food, coaching staff, and company all made for a wonderful day. Thank you again!! J.R.

“As an ex-gymnast, I am always in search of a thrill, but my desire for exhilaration is often tricky to satisfy, especially during the winter months as a quadriplegic. SCIO Ski Day not only gave me a newfound appreciation for snow but replenished my void for extreme sport. It was the most fun I have had in nearly a decade.
A special thank you to the organizers, volunteers, SCIO, CADS, and sponsors who made Ski Day possible. I look forward to making adaptive skiing a part of my every winter.” B.B.
